Aims and scope

Quantum Information Processing is a high-impact, international journal publishing cutting-edge experimental and theoretical research in all areas of Quantum Information Science. Topics of interest include quantum cryptography and communications, entanglement and discord, quantum algorithms, quantum error correction and fault tolerance, quantum computer science, quantum imaging and sensing, and experimental platforms for quantum information. Quantum Information Processing supports and inspires research by providing a comprehensive peer review process, and broadcasting high quality results in a range of formats. These include original papers, letters, broadly focused perspectives, comprehensive review articles, book reviews, and special topical issues. The journal is particularly interested in papers detailing and demonstrating quantum information protocols for cryptography, communications, computation, and sensing.

Special Issue on Quantum Information in Japan
Día de Entrega: 2026-06-30

Japan has always been pioneering quantum information science and technologies, selecting it as a key field at many levels. This thematic issue entitled, "Quantum Information in Japan" is planned to showcase the outstanding research activities performed by the Japanese research groups in the broad area of quantum information. Topics include, but are not limited to: • Quantum Information Theory • Quantum Computing • Quantum Communication Networks, • Quantum Key Distribution • Quantum Sensing • Quantum Materials • Quantum Thermodynamics • Quantum Game Theory • Quantum Zeno Effect Each submission will undergo the usual peer review process as per the journal policy. However, in addition to the usual format, the published manuscript will also contain a short description of the research group(s) contributing to the article. The guest editors will review this part to facilitate potential collaboration.

Special Issue on Quantum Software Engineering
Día de Entrega: 2026-07-31

In addition to being a solid scientific and engineering research field, quantum computing is also becoming an emergent technology market expected to play an increasingly important role in the development of new high-tech products and services. In order to flourish and fully integrate its deliverables into IT ecosystems, the quantum computing industry needs to create technical standards and best practices. In particular, the design, testing, and running of advanced quantum algorithms in hybrid quantum-digital platforms (e.g., quantum circuit-based computation together with HPC platforms) will likely be made by teams located in different regions and collaborating on virtual environments. Among the fields that shall contribute towards overcoming the technical challenges of these complex scenarios we find Quantum Software Engineering. This Topical Collection aims at engaging the quantum computing community, particularly those working on quantum algorithms and quantum software engineering, in actively discussing the production of quantum software. Topics include, but are not limited to: • Quantum programming techniques and practices • Quantum software analysis, design, testing, running, verification, quality assurance, and maintenance • Quantum software engineering methodologies • Quantum software modelling • AI & Quantum machine learning for quantum software engineering • Quantum algorithms and quantum computational complexity • Quantum resource estimation • Quantum software engineering on distributed systems • Quantum software engineering and high-performance computing • Automation of quantum software production • Metrics for quantum software • Frameworks and tools for developing quantum software • Industrial applications • Empirical evaluations
