Urb-IoT 2020 (EAI International Conference on IoT in Urban Space) is an academic conference held in Viana do Castelo, Portugal on 2020-12-02. The paper submission deadline is 2020-06-22. Acceptance notifications are sent on 2020-08-03.

Scope Cities are extremely complex realities composed of multiple layers of highly dynamic flows of people, goods and digital exchanges. Urban IoT promises to deliver massive amounts of data and fundamentally change our understanding of these systems. This should have a very positive impact in the operation of many urban services, and lead to more resource-efficient and affordable infrastructures. However, the deployment of cutting edge IoT technology is not a solution just by itself. Its success depends on the ability to integrate the city fabric and become an integral part of urban services across multiple areas, such as mobility, buildings, utility, public safety, healthcare or education. Although, there have been a number of deployments of diverse IoT systems in the urban space, our understanding of these systems and their full implications has just scratched the surface. A new generation of IoT enabled services should explore the many opportunities being created by these technologies, but it will also have to address many novel challenges regarding infrastructure resilience and maintenance, how to transform data into actionable knowledge, how to involve citizens in the co-creation of new services, how to guarantee an equitable access to the new services, how to rethink and adapt current policies and processes to this new reality and ultimately, how to know if the potential benefits of these technologies are actually resulting in more value to promote the economic and social development of cities. Topics The Urban IoT conference is soliciting original and inspiring research contributions from technology experts, designers, researchers, urban planners, and architects in academia and industry, which describe experiences, best practices, case studies and new multi-disciplinary perspectives that challenge the current state of the art in the following topics: Urban analytics Real-time city monitoring Machine learning techniques for urban data City as a platform IoT enabled infrastructures for the city IoT deployments in public spaces Participatory sensing and crowdsourcing sensing techniques Empowering citizens with IoT enables services Smartphone apps and IoT Empowering citizens with actionable analytics IoT Applications and Services in Urban Context Context-awareness in urban systems Privacy and data protection in public space Internet of Things for Sustainable Development Data-driven urban planning and design Gamification and urban engagement IoT infrastructures for Smart mobility Smart cycling
