Special Issue on Quantum Computing: Revolutionizing IoT Security Paradigms
Submission Date: 2024-08-31

In the era of digital transformation, the Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as a critical infrastructure, underpinning a myriad of applications across smart cities, healthcare, industrial automation, and beyond. As the IoT ecosystem continues to expand, so too does its vulnerability to sophisticated cyber threats. Traditional cryptographic methods and security protocols are increasingly challenged by the computational prowess of modern adversaries, necessitating a paradigm shift in IoT security. Quantum Computing (QC) offers unparalleled processing capabilities and introduces quantum encryption techniques such as Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), which could render communications virtually immune to eavesdropping. This fusion of QC and IoT security opens up new avenues for protecting data integrity, ensuring privacy, and securing communication channels in ways previously deemed impossible. However, the integration of quantum technologies into IoT security is not without its challenges. From the technical hurdles of deploying quantum solutions at scale to the theoretical implications for existing security frameworks, there is a pressing need for focused research and dialogue in this nascent field. This special issue aims to address this gap, providing a platform for the dissemination of cutting-edge research, innovative methodologies, and comprehensive reviews that explore the intersection of QC and IoT security. Guest editors: Dr Morteza Saberi Kamarposhti, Assistant Professor, Multimedia University (MMU), Malaysia Professor Keivan Navi, Professor, University of California, Irvine, United States of AmericaDr Mona Moradi, Assistant Professor, Islamic Azad University, Roudehen Branch, Tehran, IranDr Samira Sayedsalehi, Assistant Professor, University of California, Irvine, United States of America Special issue information: Objectives To encourage the submission of research that demonstrates novel QC applications, algorithms, and methodologies aimed at enhancing the security of IoT devices and networks. To bridge theory and practice and provide a platform for works that not only delve into the theoretical aspects of QC in IoT security but also showcase practical implementations, pilot studies, and scalability analyses. To foster cross-disciplinary research among QC scientists, cybersecurity experts, and IoT developers, to address multifaceted challenges in IoT security. To look beyond current security threats and solutions, encouraging contributions that speculate on future directions, emerging threats in the QC, and IoT security. To define a forward-looking research agenda by collection of articles, reviews, and case studies, define a forward-looking research agenda that identifies key questions, challenges, and opportunities at the intersection of QC and IoT security. Topics of Interest We welcome submissions on a wide range of topics related to QC and IoT security, including but not limited to: Quantum encryption and Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) for IoT Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) algorithms for IoT systems Quantum-resistant security protocols for IoT devices and networks Integration of QC into existing IoT frameworks Scalability challenges and solutions for quantum-enabled IoT security Case studies on the application of quantum computing in IoT security Theoretical models and frameworks on IoT security Manuscript submission information: Tentative Dates: Submission Open Date: 15 May 2024 Manuscript Submission Deadline: 31 August 2024 Notification of Review Results: 30 October 2024 Revision Due: 30 November 2024 Editorial Acceptance Deadline: 30 January 2025 Excepted Publication Month: March 2025
