Call For Papers
The ADBIS Doctoral Consortium (DC) is a forum where PhD students can present their research ideas to the scientific community: they will be both challenged and provided with feedback from mentors and tie cooperation bounds. The students will draw inspiration from their peers and will be given the opportunity to discuss their research objectives with senior members of the community in the context of an established international conference. The DC session will take place on September 8, 2019 in parallel with the ADBIS' workshop sessions. Every one of the participants will present her/his work, and this will be followed by a discussion involving senior members of the research community. === Eligibility === We seek PhD students who have either determined the research direction of their thesis (this will be likely to include preliminary results already published) while they still have substantial work to complete, or PhD students who are in the later stages of their studies. Please note that having a paper accepted at the main conference event is not a requirement for participation in the DC. === Submissions === To submit your application to the DC, please have the following documents ready: 1. A research statement: summarize the problem, proposed plan and progress to date. (*max 2 pages*) 2. Curriculum Vitae including the expected graduation date. (*max 1 page*) 3. Advisor's statement of support: a short email from the thesis advisor stating his/her support for the student's participation in the DC, describing the current status of the research and giving the expected date of graduation. 4. You may also submit the following documents, but this is optional: * one first-authored paper that will appear in the DC proceedings; * the title of a paper submitted to ADBIS, if applicable. The papers submitted to the DC (item 4 above) should be at most 6 pages in length in Springer format (formatting instructions can be obtained via https://preview.springer.com/gp/computer-science/lncs/conference-proceedings-guidelines) and should describe the state of the PhD project as a whole rather than a specific completed result. The paper should outline the objectives, the problem, state of the art, results obtained so far, and what is still to be done within the frame of the PhD project. If an author would rather present a completed research result, the paper should instead be submitted to the main conference or to one of the workshops accompanying the conference. A paper submitted to the DC may not be undergoing a review process for another conference or journal while it is being considered for inclusion in the DC. Submissions should be made electronically in PDF format via OpenConf (http://eric.univ-lyon2.fr/adbis2019dc/). In the case of multiple files, please submit one single compressed file (zip). === Review Process === Every one of the papers submitted to the DC will be reviewed by at least two members of the program committee and will be judged along criteria of originality, technical merit, presentation quality, and relevance. The authors of successful submissions must take into account the reviewers' comments during the preparation of the final version of their work and describe the changes they have subsequently made in a separate document to be submitted together with the final camera-ready version of their work. The program committee reserves the right to reject a paper if the final version does not meet the above requirements. The selection of participants who did not submit a specific DC paper will be based on the clarity of the submitted materials and on the stage of the student's research. We will also take institutional representation into account in order to provide a truly diverse environment for research presentation and discussion. Applications not adhering to the provided guidelines (including those concerning the number of pages) may not be considered. The authors of accepted papers must register with the conference, attend the DC and present their work. === Proceedings === The DC papers will be published by Springer, together with the ADBIS workshops proceedings, in the Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS) series (https://www.springer.com/series/7899). The author of the best DC submission will be invited to prepare an extended version to be submitted to an international journal (bearing in mind that acceptance will have to be subject to a further reviewing process). === Registration === The cost of early registration (by 21 June 2019) for the Workshops and the Doctoral Consortium is 140 EUR (90 EUR for students). === DC co-chairs === Jerome Darmont, Universite de Lyon, France Mikolaj Morzy, Poznan University of Technology, Poland Theodoros Tzouramanis, University of Thessaly, Greece === DC Program Committee == Jaroslaw Arabas, Warsaw University of Technology, Poland Kamel Boukhalfa, USTHB, Algeria Mahfoud Djedaini, University of Tours, France Tomasz Kajdanowicz, Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, Poland Imen Megdiche, ISIS Albi, France Jiefu Song, University of Toulouse, France Adam Wierzbicki, Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology, Poland
